Frequently Asked Questions - SELLERS

How Does Listing a Crane On CranesList Work?

The short answer is you contact us. We will answer any questions, explain how we do this and work with you to get your crane listed on the site.  For more info see Selling Your Crane on CranesList. The listings are free. We won't try to sell you anything. Once listed we act as an agent or broker for the sale of your crane. If, and only if, we bring find you the buyer for your crane we are paid an agents fee out of the proceeds of the sale that is agreed on beforehand. Once listed CranesList will actively market and advertise your crane.

How does CranesList Market their Listed Cranes?

In addition to the listing on CranesList we advertise our cranes with other sites and publications. There is no charge to the seller for this. We also market through a network of Crane Sellers and Buyers. We may use Search Engine advertising such as Google Ad Words. Again, no cost to the seller. We also work with many crane buyers and may already have buyers looking for what you are selling.

How much is the agents fee?

Typically it is a percentage of the sale price of the crane depending upon what that is. There are circumstances where this may change but this is all agreed on in advance.

Do listings expire?

No. As long as your crane is for sale the listing will be published. We do ask that you contact us if the crane is sold or taken off the market. We would also appreciate a heads-up if you have an offer on your crane from elsewhere.

What if I find a buyer and I want to sell the on my own while my crane is listed. Do I have to pay the agents fee.?

You can sell the crane on your own and you will not owe us a fee.

How does payment take place when the crane is sold?

We work with both the buyer and seller to ensure that all the conditions of the sale are in place. Typically sales are completed through bank wire transfer made directly to the Seller. CraneList invoices the seller beyond them receiving their funds and the buyer taking possession of the crane.

Who talks to the potential buyers?

In some ways CranesList acts in the same way as a Real Estate agent in that we work with the potential buyers. We keep you informed of activity and any offers. We will contact you with any questions from the buyer. When a buyer is at the point where they need to inspect the crane we will work with both buyer and seller to set this up. If you have been trying to sell your crane on your own you will quickly appreciate how much time you get back by not having to talk to everyone that responds to an ad.

Can I list or advertise my crane elsewhere?

You can list your crane elsewhere. Our listings are not exclusive. However this is not always the case with other Crane Brokers. And yes, you can continue to advertise and attempt to sell the crane on your own as long as your advertised or asking price is not below what we are showing. We just want a level playing field.

Can I pay for additional Marketing?

We do not charge for our marketing and do not upsell our customers any type of "Deluxe" packages. However if a seller wants to go beyond what our marketing efforts consist of they are welcome to do that.

Do you work with other Crane Brokers?

Yes we do.

We work with the potential buyer to arrange a mutually agreeable time to arrange the inspection. We try to only schedule these when we think there is a good chance it someone serious about buying the crane.

Usually the buyer.

Who photographs/films the crane?

Usually the seller. Sometimes we do. We will provide you with instructions on how to get the photos and videos that we use. One of the things we strive for are comprehensive listings. We like to see a lot of useful photos and videos. Enabling potential buyers to learn as much as you can about the crane from the website before hand eliminates a great deal of wasted time for all involved.

What can I do to improve my listing?

  • Provide use with as much marketing information as possible. We are happy to include anything you think a buyer should know
  • Lots of photos and video. We will contact you with what we like to see.
  • When possible film and photograph your crane working. If it is not convenient to do this when listing your crane we encourage you to get us more content when you do get your crane in the field. Photos and videos of a crane lifting, extending, running with all attachments visible is very helpful. If you have or are trying to justify buying a drone this could be the justification you were looking for!
  • Be aware of lighting and shadows when photographing the crane.
  • Documentation. Scans of Service Records, Certifications and Manuals.
  • History. How the crane has been used.

Does my company name show on my crane in the photos?

We typically airbrush out identifying information on a crane before posting the photos or videos. This ensures that potential buyers won't be bothering the seller with questions we should be answering. It also prevents potential buyers or brokers from circumventing CranesList in the transaction. This is an industry wide practice.
